Junior Team results at Sea Otter

The Junior Development Cycling Team sponsored by VCM  and Chapin Cycling made a great showing at Sea Otter Classic this year.

Four team members competed in Saturday’s Juniors 15-18 Female road race – 3 laps of the road course, which finishes at the top of Barloy Canyon.Jr Team Corners

Results for the Junior Team included:

4th Place – Christina Hashimoto
5th – Sage Lawrence
7th – Hannah Lawrence 7
8th – Luisa Dell

On Sunday, Christina Hashimoto did even better competing in the Cat 3/4 Women’s open age group. The longer race – 5 laps – suited her well as she reached the Cat 4 podium with a fantastic 2nd place finish and 4th overall in a race with 35 competitors.

Congrats to Christina and all the Junior team. And thanks of course to Gordon and Sue for all the work they do in developing the team.

Tune up for Riding Season

We’re heading into prime riding weather and if you’ve neglected your faithful wheeled steed over the winter, it’s probably time for a tune-up. Your webmaster has personally witnessed 4 broken derailleur cables (including his own) in the last 3 weeks, mostly due to neglected maintenance.

Whether you do your own bike wrenching and just need new tires, brake pads, bar tape (or maybe even replacement derailleur cables!); or you need a professional mechanic to get things tuned up, we suggest a visit to your friendly local bike shop to get your bike into top shape for Spring and Summer riding.

Nearly all the local bike shops offer Velo Club Monterey members substantial discounts. Visit our Local Bike Shop Page for more info on the local bike shops who support Velo Club with discounts.

2016 Velo Club Clothing – Order Now!

Velo Club Monterey Cycling Kit for 2016 is available to order now through April 30th.  Designs will remain the same as the past few years and Champion Systems continues as our supplier. You will place and pay for your order directly from CS and then all orders will be shipped free to the club to distribute to you. Note that they have changed their ordering system from previous years (making it less intuitive in our opinion) so we have some hints below to help you navigate the clothing options.

2016 VCM Cycling Kit

We’re preparing for a new 2016 clothing order for VCM kit. Whether you are a new member who needs to “show the colors” for the first time or you’ve just ridden so many miles that you’ve worn out your older jersey, bib shorts, vest or jacket, we first need to gauge how many are interested in ordering new VCM clothing.

Graphics will be the same as the last few years. If you are interested in purchasing VCM clothing, please contact the clothing coordinator Robin at clothing@vcmonterey.org as soon as possible and let her know how many pieces you might be interested in purchasing this year. This is not a firm commitment yet, we are only trying to estimate the level of interest as there is a minimum of ten pieces needed to place an order.

As in the recent past, we will be using the Champion Systems CS Direct system for ordering. Once we know that we will have at least ten pieces to order, a Velo Club Monterey “shop” will be set up during the month of April and directions for placing your order will be sent out to all VCM members and others who might be interested in purchasing clothing.

Additionally, for those unfamiliar with the fit of Champion System clothing, we have received a “fit kit” from CS that includes the following pieces:

Men’s Club Cut Short Sleeve Jersey
Size: S,M,L,XL,2XL

Men’s Race Cut Short Sleeve Jersey
Size: M,L,XL,2XL

Women’s Short Sleeve Jersey

Men’s Bib Shorts
