Save the Dates – Upcoming VCM Holiday Events

We’ve got a few Velo Club Monterey and cycling events coming up before the end of the year, so here are your Save the Date reminders. Details on each of these events will follow later, but please add the following to your calendars:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 – VCM Movie Nite – Mad Dogs & Englishmen in Carmel, 6:30 pm
  • Saturday, Dec. 14 – Velo Club Holiday Party – PG Museum, 6-10
  • Saturday, Dec. 21 – Santa Cycle Ride – Monterey Wharf, 12 Noon
  • Sunday, Dec. 22 – Critical Christmas Lighted Bike Parade – Custom House Plaza, 6 pm

You may remember from earlier announcements that due to increased expenses the Holiday Party is no longer free to members. We’re asking for a $20 donation for each attendee to defray the costs of the party.

HOWEVER… Anyone who has volunteered a couple of hours during the year to help with club events – the Sea Otter rest stops, cleaning the bike path, helping at the Summer Picnic or Twilight Rides, and yes, even volunteering to help at the Holiday Party – earn free entrance to the party.

And it’s not too late to get on the list. If you can help with the Holiday Party, we could still use some volunteers as bartenders, cleanup crew etc… Click here to send an email to volunteer.

We’ll send out additional details on each of these events in the coming weeks.

Nominations for 2020 VCM Board Members

Each December we elect the Velo Club Monterey Board of Directors for the following year. As per the Club by-laws, the current Board of Directors has created a Nominating Committee to propose candidates for next year’s Board and Officers.

5 of the 6 current board members have agreed to serve on the 2020 board if re-elected. Edmund Gross is retiring from the board at the end of this year. Tom Rolander has indicated his willingness to replace Edmund as a Director-at-Large and the Nominating Committee believes that he would be an excellent addition to the board. The Committee is proposing that the following members be nominated to serve as the 2020 Velo Club Board of Directors and Officers:

Mark Kaufmann – President
Chris Swainson – Vice President
Jack McKenna – Treasurer
Keely Clifford – Secretary
Suzanne Kroeze – Director-at-Large
Tom Rolander – Director-at-Large

Any other club member in good standing may also be nominated to run in the board election by the motion of one member and the support of two other members. Nominations for the 2020 Board must be sent in writing or via email to the Club Secretary and received by November 1 to be added to the ballot. You can email nominations to veloclub@vcmonterey.org or mail them to:Velo Club Monterey – Club Secretary, P.O. Box 1404, Monterey, CA 93942
For more complete information on the election process see the Velo Club Monterey By-Laws here.

On or around November 15, you will be sent an email with a link to the online ballot for the board elections. Voting ends December 1st.

Note: There is no action you need to take now. The election links will come in an email on November 15th.

Oct. 16 – VCM Twilight Ride at Laguna Seca

This coming Wednesday, October 16th, Velo Club Monterey is sponsoring Twilight Cycling at WeatherTech Raceway from 5 to 7pm. Come experience ride Laguna Seca’s 11-turn, 2.25 mile course, highlighted by the legendary Corkscrew drop.

Once again we’re also bringing BRATS & BEER (plus some non-alcoholic choices) for your pre or post ride fuel. It’s lots of fun, so don’t miss out on this great evening of riding the track and hanging with your Velo Club friends.

Helmets are required… for the riding, not the Brats & Beer! The cost is $10 to ride, plus we ask for a $10 donation to the club if you eat and drink. You can visit the WeatherTech Raceway Twilight Cycling Page for more info on the ride.
